About Lorrie

Lorrie’s artistic career began at Duke University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Italian. She studied at the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy. Her first jobs after graduating and moving to San Francisco were in advertising. She worked as an Art Director at Foote, Cone and Belding and McCann-Erickson Ad Agencies. It wasn’t until 12 years later when she was pregnant with her first daughter that her desire to paint came rushing back. She found painting to be a therapeutic outlet where she could be free of an outcome and allow her heart to speak to her on the canvas. A few years ago her heart’s wisdom expressed that it was time to share her art professionally. Lorrie returned to school and completed the Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute. Through that program, she began to refine her process and discover her artistic voice.

Lorrie has a deep commitment to her practice of growing self awareness. The energy of her practice is infused into all of her paintings. The works exhibit the power of loving oneself, taking a leap of faith and illuminating beauty. One can’t help but feel the energy through her vibrant use of color, rich textures, dimensional layers and a sparkle that seems to find its way into each painting regardless of the subject. Throughout each painting she is directed by her heart. She begins from a place of not knowing how it will come together. A project might start with big watery acrylic washes, charcoal drawings, dripped ink, alcohol inks, spray paint, oil paints or oil sticks. Lorrie sees these playful beginnings as a beautiful metaphor for life. Learning how to let go, trust the process and allow works to be revealed has become the mantra versus needing to know or controlling what will happen. The push-and-pull tension between not knowing and revelation is where she feels most alive.

In Lorrie’s personal life she recently had the opportunity to let go and practice trusting as she does on the canvas. After living on the island of Kauai for 9 years, the wisdom of her heart knew it was time to begin a new chapter. Lorrie, her husband and two daughters moved to the Bay Area in 2024. It was a leap of faith for all of them, and they have been embraced by the various communities surrounding them. Lorrie fortunately found a studio in the Industrial Creative Building (ICB) in Sausalito where she is working amongst 100 other professional artists of all modalities. She loves being a part of a thriving creative community. She is currently building a portfolio to be displayed at the ICB Winter Open Studios November 14-16. Go check out her latest work and feel the energy of her art for yourself!
